Building Problem Solvers in an Ever-Changing Environment

EduAction had the privilege of partnering with AIA Shared Services to deliver a large-scale 2 Days 1 Night Team Building Programme involving 320 participants, designed to strengthen collaboration, adaptability, and problem-solving capabilities through experiential learning.

The programme featured three engaging and immersive experiences:

  • Melaka Heritage Hunt
  • Chin A Jones
  • Mount Tiki

Each activity was carefully selected to challenge participants to think critically, collaborate effectively, and respond to changing situations while working towards shared goals.

Developing Problem-Solving Through Experience

In today’s dynamic business environment, teams are constantly faced with evolving priorities, changing circumstances, and complex challenges.

Throughout the programme, participants were immersed in situations that required them to:

  • Analyze information quickly
  • Make decisions under pressure
  • Adapt to changing conditions
  • Collaborate across teams
  • Remain focused on achieving their objectives

Whether navigating the historical streets of Melaka during the Heritage Hunt, uncovering clues and solving challenges in Chin A Jones, or overcoming obstacles together in Mount Tiki, participants experienced firsthand the importance of adaptability and collective problem-solving.

Aligning Activities with Business Objectives

One of the key success factors of the programme was the alignment between the experiential activities and AIA Shared Services’ development objectives.

According to Allan Cheong, Senior Manager at AIA Shared Services:

“All the programmes designed by Hilson were relevant to the content and achieved our underlying objectives.”

The activities were intentionally designed to encourage participants to apply problem-solving skills while working towards goals that continued to evolve throughout the experience — mirroring the realities of today’s workplace.

“The games were focused on enhancing problem-solving skills and using those skills to achieve goals, especially when the goals keep evolving and changing from time to time.”

By placing participants in challenging yet engaging scenarios, the programme provided opportunities to practice critical thinking, adaptability, and teamwork in a safe and memorable environment.

An Enjoyable and Meaningful Experience

Beyond the learning outcomes, the programme also created a highly engaging and enjoyable experience for participants.

“I can see all the participants really enjoyed the programme.”

The combination of experiential learning, team challenges, and shared experiences helped participants connect, learn, and grow together while having fun throughout the journey.

The Outcome

The AIA Shared Services Team Building Programme successfully strengthened:

  • Problem-solving capabilities
  • Adaptability in changing situations
  • Team collaboration and communication
  • Goal alignment and execution
  • Critical thinking and decision-making

Most importantly, participants experienced how effective teamwork and problem-solving can help teams navigate uncertainty and achieve success, even when circumstances continue to change.

“We would probably recommend this programme to other companies as well because they will definitely benefit from it.”

At EduAction, we believe the best learning happens when people experience challenges together, reflect on their actions, and apply those lessons back in the workplace.

Because when teams learn to adapt together, they perform better together.
